The Challenge:
Cogent’s clients came from different industries and often had very different marketing needs, but the underlying challenge was similar: turn business goals into clear marketing strategy and useful creative execution. That required quickly understanding each company’s audience, positioning, sales process, and growth priorities, then developing marketing assets that supported those objectives.
The work had to be both strategic and practical, with solutions tailored to each client rather than built from a one-size-fits-all approach.
My Role:
As Creative Director, I led a team of 12 while working directly with Cogent clients to assess marketing needs, develop strategy, and translate that strategy into practical creative execution. I directed the development of client collateral, presentations, campaigns, digital content, and other marketing assets while also contributing hands-on to the work myself.
The role required balancing creative leadership, team management, client communication, and execution, with an emphasis on producing marketing materials that supported each client’s sales, brand, and growth objectives.
My Approach:
I started by understanding each client’s business model, audience, sales process, and immediate marketing priorities, then shaped the creative strategy around those needs. From there, I directed my team in developing the required materials while also stepping into the work myself when needed.
The goal was to keep strategy and execution closely connected, so the final deliverables were not just visually strong, but useful, relevant, and aligned with each client’s growth objectives.
Selected Work:
The work at Cogent spanned multiple client industries and business needs, with projects ranging from marketing strategy and brand development to sales collateral, presentations, campaigns, digital content, and other growth-focused assets.
Client Strategy & Creative Development:
I worked with clients to turn business goals into actionable marketing strategy, then led the development of the creative assets needed to support that strategy. Depending on the engagement, that could include positioning, messaging, presentations, sales collateral, campaign materials, digital content, and other brand or marketing deliverables.
Creative Team Leadership:
I led a 12-person creative team responsible for developing client-facing marketing materials across a wide range of industries and project types. I managed workflow, creative quality, and consistency while helping the team translate strategy into finished work, and I remained hands-on when projects required direct creative development.
Impact:
The work strengthened the connection between strategy and execution across client engagements, giving businesses clearer messaging, stronger marketing materials, and more consistent creative support. Leading the team also allowed projects to move from recommendation to finished deliverables efficiently, while maintaining quality across a wide range of client needs.
